Bond Explanatory
If approved, this bond
measure would fund Ashland School District’s projected classroom and facility
requirements for the next 12 years. Ashland School District would plan to:
Rebuild an elementary school, update core facilities at Ashland Middle
School and two other elementary schools, and update the high school arts, music, and physical education instructional facilities.
Renovate, upgrade, and improve existing school buildings.

an elementary school
Rebuilding Bellview
Elementary School includes plans to renovate or replace an elementary
school with a green, energy-efficient facility.
Update
core facilities at middle and elementary schools
Update core facilities at
Ashland Middle School includes plans to upgrade the cafeteria and
kitchen fixtures.
Update core facilities at
Helman and Walker Elementary Schools includes plans for a new
building to separate the cafeteria and commons area from the physical education
space at Helman; and upgrades to the libraries at Helman and Walker Elementary
Schools.

Updating Ashland High School includes plans to provide new music classrooms, additional student
service facilities, and the addition of a scene shop for the Mountain Avenue
Theater. Renovation of physical education instructional and support spaces is
also planned.
Renovate
and upgrade existing school buildings
Renovation and upgrades at
the existing high school campus include plans to replace
and update heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems,
electrical, and lighting systems; PCB removal; safety and security
improvements; technology upgrades; and upgrades to meet the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Upgrading Ashland Middle
School includes plans to update HVAC and lighting systems;
PCB removal; safety and security improvements; technology upgrades, and
upgrades to meet ADA requirements.
Upgrading Helman and Walker
Elementary Schools includes plans to replace kitchen fixtures;
updates to HVAC systems, lighting systems; PCB removal; safety and security improvements;
technology upgrades; and upgrades to meet ADA requirements.
Upgrading Willow Wind
Community Learning Center and other district facilities includes
plans to update HVAC systems and lighting; PCB removal; safety and security
improvements; and upgrades to meet ADA requirements.
The levy to pay the last Ashland School District bond that
passed in 1996 will expire in 2007. If approved, the levy to pay this new bond
is intended to replace the expiring one. The bond principal amount cannot
exceed $46.8 million. Bond proceeds can only be used for costs associated with
completing the projects listed on the ballot. The estimated cost to property
owners would be approximately $2.00 per $1,000 of assessed value per year over
the life of the 12-year bond. For the owner of a home in Ashland assessed at
$250,000, the bond would cost approximately $500 per year. Rates could vary
depending on interest rates and growth in the District’s total assessed
valuation.*
