Bond earns unanimous vote

Congratulations Ashland! The Ashland School Board unanimously voted to endorse the renewal on our current school bond Monday night. Many of our buildings are in dire need of repair and this bond addresses our highest level needs. Ashland has a history of excellence in education — our dedicated, high quality teachers and administrators generate results. We’re on the right road. World-class education requires world-class facilities.

Strong schools make a strong community

Strong public schools have always been a core element in the success of our community. Sound infrastructure and functional facilities are part of what makes schools great. Renewing the public schools facilities bond is critical to maintaining our excellent schools. The school board is wise to seek renewing one.

Just say 'yes'

I understand that many of us feel the decline of Ashland is inevitable. I stand here today to share with you that nothing is inevitable but the power of our human possibility.

My message is simple:

Say “Yes!” to Ashland.

“Yes” to community.

“Yes” to this dream we have always held.

“Yes” to our schools and our parks, our children and old people.

“Yes” to our workingmen and women, our small businesses, our downtown merchants.

“Yes” to open spaces and trees and clean water.

“Yes” for the chance to raise a family here.

“Yes” to our retired men and women who choose to live in a community with color and vibrancy and the thriving pulse of life.

“Yes” to the vision that moves us into a beautiful future.

“Yes” to the wisdom that recognizes the changes we need to make.

“Yes” to a philosophy of action, with a burning hope for those who will come after us, and a deep respect for those who came before.

“Yes” to the women of Ashland, who 100 years ago said “No!” to the profit driven minority who had all but turned this beautiful park into lots for sale to the highest bidder.

“Yes” to a strong community.

“Yes” to a healthy community.

“Yes” for tomorrow.

We are the strength and the health of this community.

Please join me in creating an Ashland renewal.

Please vote.

Say “Yes!” to Ashland.

Thank You.
